WashU education is possible without taking on the burden of student loan debt.

Washington University in St. Louis, MO

I am excited to share some important news with you—WashU has expanded its "no-loan" financial aid policy for all undergraduate students effective fall 2024! Removing need-based loans from our financial aid packages is another way to show qualified students and their families, some of whom may have previously viewed WashU as financially unattainable, that we want them here. And we are working to ensure a WashU education is possible without taking on the burden of student loan debt.

This initiative is the latest step in a long, comprehensive strategy to expand financial aid at the university. Other components include:

  • WashU Pledge, which provides a full undergraduate education, including tuition, fees, housing, and meals, to students in Missouri and southern Illinois with annual family incomes of $75,000 or less;

  • Gateway to Success, a $1 billion investment, which made possible the university’s shift to need-blind admissions in 2021.

As a result, the Princeton Review recently named WashU #1 in the nation for financial aid.
